The opening evening of Prins Alexander PleinBIOSis entirely dedicated to music as a force for change. From the underground punk scene in Suriname to the rise of the Godfather of Soul and a mysterious finale that transformed pop culture forever, three films demonstrate how music connects people, shapes identity and has the power to challenge established norms.
The evening opens with Tra Fasi, the remarkable directorial debut of Charity Sumter. The film follows Shavero Ferrier, who, against all expectations, builds his own punk and rock scene in Suriname. It is an inspiring story about self-expression, community and the courage to follow your own path.
Next, Get On Upbrings the extraordinary life story of James Brownto the screen. Featuring a compelling performance by Chadwick Boseman, the film traces Brown’s journey from poverty and hardship to global fame. It is a powerful tribute to an artist whose talent, determination and boundless energy changed music history forever.
The evening concludes with a Surprise Film: an iconic music film that blurred the boundaries between cinema, dance and the music video, eventually becoming a cult classic. Due to licensing restrictions, the title remains a secret, but fans will undoubtedly recognize its magic.
